Disclaimer: I’ve been so deeply immersed in the magic of life I’ve neglected my posts!!!I’m back in ACTION!!!

In May I spent a week in New York with a friend. Weekend 6 was at the Beacon Theater – What a GORGEOUS venue!!! Geenen Roth and Dr. Andew Weil were two impactful speakers. I enjoyed the conversations on body image, body dysmorphia and eating disorders as well as healthy aging and integrative medicine.

There is NO correlation between being thin and being happy!!!

Geenen Roth reminded us that what we resist in some way defines our life and that the way we eat is the way we live.

How you do anything is how you do everything!!!

Dr. Andrew Weil reminded us that we do no have a healthcare system, we have a disease management system.

We spend more than any other country, we pay more and we have less to show for it.

Health is a personal responsibility!!!

Dr. Weil’s definition of Integrative Nedicine:

1. Healing self – the body has a system for healing it’s self down to the DNA molecules.

2. Human beings are whole persons not just physical bodies.

3. All aspects of lifestyle are important to consider.

4. The practitioner/patient relationship is central to healing (That relationship has been destroyed by for-profit medicine).

Weekend 7 zoomed by so fast I could hardly catch my breath.

Did you know that an estimated 120,000 people die per year from medical errors?

Julia Cameron – a favorite author of mine – spoke about the practice of morning pages.

The body is a perfect bio-computer.

If you are eating artificial, chemicalize food you will have an artificial, chemicalized life!

When was the last time you enjoyed a family meal?

What we eat is influenced by who we eat it with.

Where is your food coming from? How many miles has your food traveled to get to you?

Howard Lyman – The Mad (Vegan) Cowboy

If you are a part of the herd all you ever see is the asshole of the guy in front of you.

I deserve to have an AMAZING life!!! I accept it!!! Now!!!

Happy. Healthy. Prosperous. My life keeps expanding!!!

Chocolate Lover’s Dream

Are you a chocolate lover? Are you a foodie? This weekend I had the pleasure of being introduced to the most nutritiously delicious chocolate ever. It was AMAZING!!! Vanessa Barg, chocolatier extraordinaire, health counselor and alumni of  The Institute of Integrative Nutrition gave us each a bar of handmade organic, raw chocolate created especially for our class. Entitled the “Super Counselor” bar it included Cacao Beans, Cacao Butter, Agave Nectar, Goji Berries, Pau D’Arco, Cat’s Claw, Ashwaghanda, Holy Basil, Reishi Mushroom, Crystal Manna Algae, Vanilla Bean and Love.

It was GLORIOUS!!!

Being healthy is NOT complicated!!!

IIN respects bio-individuality.

IIN remains neutral –  Different foods work for different people.

IIN promotes primary foods as well as edible foods.

Primary foods include the myriad ways we nourish ourselves – for example – relationships, work, intimacy, sexuality, love, spirituality, family, hobbies, etc…

IIN practices deconstructing cravings:

What is the underlying imbalance?

What is going on for me?

How is my body trying to recreate balance?

IIN values healthy, wholesome, fresh, preferrably organic foods.

Simple is best.

Cooking is an art form.

Food is for sharing.

How can your food nourish you and your relationships?

Treat everything like it matters.

Everything is an opportunity.

IIN offers excellent tools to provide wellness services for clients to recognize how food and lifestyle affect health, happiness and quality of life.

As a wellness coach I am excited to support you to identify and achieve your health and personal goals.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions…

Thank you!!!

How do you start your day?

My inspirational friend Ana of Devana Wellness drinks gloppy green goodness for breakfast. She also happens to be an impetus for my signing up with The Institute of Integrative Nutrition. When visiting with her over the summer she made a jar full of vibrant green, farm-stand fresh breakfast smoothie and offered to share. As someone who wasn’t particularly consistent with breakfast habits much less potent greenery, I wasn’t quite up to speed with her advanced recipe. I did however enjoy a modified beginners version and immediately felt the vital energy it evoked.

The day before Thanksgiving, committed to practice good eating habits over the holidays, I picked up big bunches of fresh herbs and greens. For the past few days I’ve enjoyed a nourishing morning green drink. One version I especially enjoy looks like this…

1 banana

1 handful blueberries, mint and spinach

Almond milk

Fresh, delicious and energizing!!!

Do you eat breakfast? What does it look like? Do you consume a healthy portion of vegetables each day? Would you consider incorporating them into your morning palette?

Do you like Ginger? I love, love, love… ginger in cooking, candied ginger, ginger tea, chocolate covered ginger, ginger candies and now Ginger People’s Ginger Soother – YUM!!!

Made with honey, ginger and lemon it is a zingy delicious refreshment that holds a local address right here in Marina. You can pick one up at Whole Foods among other places. Try it mixed with sparkling water as a ginger spritzer. Add vodka and honey for a smooth martini. Or heat it up wih extra lemon on a cold fall night.

However you enjoy it – drink up and prosper!!! 😉

Where do you buy your food? Do you buy organic or conventional produce? Do you consider where your food originates when you buy it?

Harkness Preserve – Rockport, Maine

John, Mary Jane and Miles the Black Golden Doodle

Harkness Preserve

I had set aside this Sunday morning with a plan to attend church. At the last minute, I lost my gumption and decided I wasn’t up for going alone. Church attendance requires company, a friend to make it an adventure, to chat about it later, a social, and connecting event… Instead I enjoyed a quiet, gray, wet morning inside. This afternoon, after yet another nourishing lunch provided by John and the appearance of the sun, we piled ourselves along with Miles into the car and walked the small and forestry trail at Harkness Preserve. This lovely and restorative day was finished with more food a la chef John. My body, mind and spirit are being nourished here in sweet Camden.

Thank you John and Mary Jane for sharing your beautiful home and your beautiful selves with me. You are truly angelic beings and I feel so grateful to have been graced with your presence in my lives! XO
