Way back in February I knew change was imminent… The Shoebox era was coming to a close… Here is what I wrote about my upcoming move long before I had any idea what it would actually look like… a solid testament to the wonderful ways of manifestation.

“I’m getting ready to move – again… It’s become almost like an annual migration. Like a gypsy, or a bird, or a butterfly… The seasons change, the energy shifts, Arianna gets new wings, new ideas and off she goes again.

Each time I move I learn more about myself, more about my place in the world, more about others, and much, much more about the value of my environment. I’ve experienced a wide, wide variety of living arrangements. I’ve become flexible, adaptable and significantly more adept at knowing what I works well for me and what doesn’t.

I’ve lived alone. I’ve lived with MANY. I’ve lived with men, women, boyfriends, sisters, couples, family, friends and new faces. I’ve had pets, plants, and views. I’ve lived in warm houses, cold houses, trailers, cabins, apartments, college dorms, studios, bottom floors, and top floors. I lived in California, Alaska, British Colombia and Maine. I lived in Ecuador for a month above a jazzercise and a mini-market, with a roof-top kitchen and out-door concrete laundry basin. We washed our clothes under puffy white clouds with expansive views of the city, sharp green mountain peaks, and endless skies.

I’ve been blessed by abundance, serendipity and wonderful connections. Moving has felt scary and exciting, daunting, doubtful and energizing. It has always worked out.  And generally in ways more wonderful than I could ever have imagined.

“The Shoebox” era is coming to a close… In the next few months – by July to be specific – I will be entering a new phase. I want to live in a house. I like living with others. The right roommates. I want to share a home with one to a few who are fun, respectful, healthy, active, communicative, open-minded and willing. I want big windows, bright sunshine, open space, a user-friendly kitchen, a bath tub – a private bathroom would be great! So would a big closet (s). I want cats and a dog (s), a garden to putter in – tomatoes, peas, carrots and squash, herbs, and berries.  I want quiet, peaceful, relaxing, friendly, and comfortable, shared cooking and meals, cleaning duties and chores. I want a fireplace and skylights. Quiet and safe – a nurturing, restorative, easy place to call home.

The Berkeley Hills? Carmel? Monterey? The North Bay? San Francisco?

Where will my next home be?

I love being able to walk out my door for a run or  hike. I love hills and views. I love south facing windows and well-built homes.

I’m excited for the unfolding…  and look forward the change. Thank you!!!”

In July I actually moved. From The Shoebox to The Dream Boat. It’s not in Berkeley or the North Bay, San Francisco, Carmel or Monterey. It not in San Diego or any of the other places I thought I might land. It’s in Big Sur. Can you imagine?!!! Here I am… I had no idea!!! And its perfect!!!

The Dream Boat: On the coast with a peek of the ocean, walking distance to work, hills and views and hikes out my door. Gorgeous big windows. Many. Brilliant sunlight. Abundant. Open space. A lovely little kitchen and a perfectly petite bathtub. It boasts a superb sleeping loft. Cozy and spacious. There is giant redwood deck and earth just calling out to be planted. It is almost everything I asked for and more.

I love it!!! I’m still in disbelief that Big Sur is home. I wake every day in awe that this is where I live. Perfectly, exquisitely grateful for my current abode… I feel so blessed!!!

How brilliant of me… somehow this evening I lost not one but TWO lengthy posts. That’s what I get for trying to enjoy so many things at once.  Like so many other things in life, my blogging also benefits when I am fully present…. Focus. Attention. Creative Inspiration.

I lost my kitten Friday morning. Olivia was almost six months old. We had made a deal. I promised her her freedom. She got to live her best life. We live on the edge of the woods. Predators abound. I wanted to keep her in. I worried whenever she was out. Coyotes. Bobcats. Mountain lions. So many big animals eager to enjoy a tender kitten snack. Warm, balmy nights glazed in silver moonlight. She has been particularly restless. Friday morning just before dawn I let her out to play. She was on the deck when I heard it. A large animal. Another deer? And then I heard her little meow. Surprised and then distressed. I flew out of the loft where I had been reading. Outside I caught the last of the crashing as a large critter bounded off into the woods. Quiet. No Olivia. No! No more Olivia.


But I had promised her. Freedom. A rich and joyful life. Rather than confinement, she had a happy cat life. Still all I wanted to do was cry… I have the BEST friends!!! Big hugs, kind words, texts, gentle love… Thank you!!!  The attention has been really helpful!!!

I went away. That was helpful too. Denial? Distance? I pretended it wasn’t real. I purposefully ignored the empty Dream Boat. No feline friend awaiting my return. I enjoyed an entirely lovely weekend. Sister time. Friend time. Adventures in the North Bay. Massage appointments in the East Bay. Perfectly relaxing. Restorative. Abundant. And then it was time to go home.

Little angel of laughter and light…. I love you.

The Dream Boat feels so quiet and empty.

In May I spent a week in New York with a friend. Weekend 6 was at the Beacon Theater – What a GORGEOUS venue!!! Geenen Roth and Dr. Andew Weil were two impactful speakers. I enjoyed the conversations on body image, body dysmorphia and eating disorders as well as healthy aging and integrative medicine.

There is NO correlation between being thin and being happy!!!

Geenen Roth reminded us that what we resist in some way defines our life and that the way we eat is the way we live.

How you do anything is how you do everything!!!

Dr. Andrew Weil reminded us that we do no have a healthcare system, we have a disease management system.

We spend more than any other country, we pay more and we have less to show for it.

Health is a personal responsibility!!!

Dr. Weil’s definition of Integrative Nedicine:

1. Healing self – the body has a system for healing it’s self down to the DNA molecules.

2. Human beings are whole persons not just physical bodies.

3. All aspects of lifestyle are important to consider.

4. The practitioner/patient relationship is central to healing (That relationship has been destroyed by for-profit medicine).

Weekend 7 zoomed by so fast I could hardly catch my breath.

  253. Drinking green tea instead of prescription drugs when having a nervous breakdown
  254. Enforced quiet time (no radio, stereo or other music)
  255. Using old socks and T-shirts for dish rags
  256. Switching to a natural carpet cleaner
  257. Not using the fan in my bathroom
  258. Properly disposing of electrical waste like old computers and cell phones
  259. Backing up my work with a USB stick rather than CDs
  260. Not bothering with any rubber charity wristbands or ribbon campaigns
  261. Reusing old floppy discs as coasters
  262. Driving the speed limit when I rent a Zipcar
  263. Drinking straight from the bottle
  264. Not using fruit and veggie wash or rinsing things for more than a second
  265. Knitting scarves instead of buying them
  266. Holding my hair up with a pen, chopstick or rubber band from my newspaper instead of buying more elastic bands or other hair accessories
  267. Polishing silverware with baking soda
  268. Cancelling magazine subscriptions, donating extras to the doctor’s office
  269. Buying used furniture and recovering it rather than getting new stuff
  270. Learning to sew and mend my own clothes
  271. Reusing a fake Christmas tree from last year, not buying ornaments
  272. Asking that others only buy me eco-friendly gifts
  273. Keeping my addresses on my computer rather than buying a paper notebook
  274. Using an all-natural shoe polish, like coconut oil
  275. Making my own soup broth instead of buying it
  276. Not using anymore tape
  277. Not shaving my legs anymore
  278. Not consuming anything that contains or is manufactured with genetically modified corn (ie. high-fructose corn syrup, corn starch, ethanol, corn-fed beef, etc)
  279. Not using soap to wash my dishes unless there’s oil residue
  280. Only buying my beans dry, in bulk
  281. Having a regular “inside day”, staying at home and not buying anything
  282. Adding an eco-friendly tip to my email signature
  283. Only drinking fair-trade tea
  284. Not buying any individually wrapped food
  285. No more downhill skiing (unless I carpool there, then haul my own ass up the hill)
  286. Only taking cabs fueled by natural gas
  287. Sticking to organic, raw honey
  288. Using couriers that use bikes, walking or public transit instead of cars and trucks
  289. Letting my dishes dry in the dishwasher rack with my houseplants beneath to collect the excess water dripping off
  290. Hand-whipping my whipped cream instead of using an electric blender
  291. Only buying organic, unbleached cotton towels
  292. Using up my change at the cash register
  293. Using a broom and dustpan instead of a vacuum
  294. Packing carry-on rather than check-in luggage
  295. No more paper towels
  296. Using scrap paper as bookmarks instead of buying new ones
  297. Using manual tools rather than electric or battery-powered ones
  298. Using natural lipstick
  299. Organizing my stuff so I don’t lose things (and therefore don’t need to repurchase them)
  300. Going to the bathroom before I go on the plane

  311. Collecting the elastic bands from my newspaper each morning and returning them to the delivery boy/girl
  312. Opting for a green-minded real estate company when buying/selling my house
  313. Only eating at restaurants that serve local and/or organic food, and offer eco-friendly take-out options
  314. Using Coccoina, an all-natural glue
  315. Getting used boxes for moving day
  316. Using organic cotton produce bags and bulk-bin sacks
  317. Framing my art with reclaimed barn board and recycled glass
  318. Buying 100% recycled CD sleeves instead of jewel cases
  319. Going to an eco-conscious bike repair shop
  320. Shopping at green malls
  321. Only using the small burners on my stove

Dr. Mercola advertises “the world’s most popular natural health newsletter.” It is chock full of all sorts of tips and information. I noticed one particular article today by Brian Tracy that discussed attitude. I had never heard of this man so I Googled him. It looks like he is a SUPER coach and specializes in helping you achieve your personal and business goals. Have you heard of him? I went ahead and signed up for some of his emails and will keep you updated…

The article that caught my interest was entitled Four Steps to a Super Attitude.

I am a firm believer that we each get to choose how we want to experience our life. Throughout every day we can react unconsciously, or we can choose to respond consciously.

Tracy suggests that we are responsible for our attitude and to achieve the greatest levels of success choose a great one!

When life becomes challenging, are you able to focus on the future rather than the past?

Can you let go of the past and instead focus your energy on how you want things to be?

When you encounter difficulties can you put your attention on solutions rather than dwelling on the problem?

Tracy reminds us that solutions are inherently positive and problems are inherently negative.

Be solutions-oriented and you become a more positive and constructive human being.

Can you look for the positive?

Can you have the mindset that there are gifts inherent to every set of problems?

Can you approach the world assuming the bigger the problem the bigger the gift awaiting you?

Can you find the lesson?

Can you assume that wherever you are, in whatever situation you are in, it is exactly the right place?

Can you see your challenges as opportunities to learn and grow?

You are completely capable of choosing your experience, of consciously creating a positive mental attitude and of achieving whatever level of personal and professional success you desire.

National Geographic’s Green Guide for Everyday Living has a special section called Go Local.

Click on it and you can type in your zip code – up comes a comprehensive list of green businesses. Little ol’ 93940 had 15 pages of listing. Of course this included businesses as far out as Carmel Valley and as far up as Santa Cruz… but still… Great resource.

What it didn’t have was what I was looking for:

I need a new dentist, a new women’s wellness doctor and an accountant.

I’m interested in supporting eco-conscious, re-source-ful, integrative professionals that

operate client-centered, value-based practices… Any suggestions?

How ready are you for the right person? Instead of looking for a date April Beyer suggests why don’t you try living. Instead of hiding at home behind a computer why don’t you get out there and exercise your social skills? Instead of having a very specific focus and aiming for a target of marriage what if you were to enjoy the process, enjoy living, and look within yourself? Instead of rushing from here to there chained to your tech gadgets, what if you practiced lingering, and connecting with people that captured your interest? What if you practiced reaching out, striking up conversation, and putting yourself out there? What if we looked within for why we don’t have a partner rather than looking outside of ourselves? Beyer suggests we are a culture trained to live in our heads. We over-think and under-feel. What if we listened to our feeling brain?
